The last 2 months of the year were jam-packed with activities for the fellows of the SUGPAT Alternative School for Peacebuilding and the Arts. As the program is about to come to an end, the ALSPA fellows made the most out of the few remaining weeks of their stay in SUGPAT.
Digital Literacy Class
The ALSPA Fellows underwent their Digital Literacy Sessions where SUGPAT partnered with the Computer Science Department of the College of Science and Information Technology of Ateneo de Zamboanga University and Digibayanihan to teach fellows the basic principles of utilizing technology.
The fellows were taught how to make effective presentations and word processing through using Microsoft Office software.
Cine Paz de Mindanao Film Festival
One of the five short films produced during the Digital Storytelling Workshop made it as an official selection of a nationwide film festival, Cine Paz de Mindanao.
“Pamilya Dimagiba,” directed by Joshua Labra together with his teammates Apple Morano, David Cose, Dexter Fabian, and Rassan Atiulla, had their first red carpet experience as they competed with other films in competition.
Their film depicting arguments between family members got into the “Pluma de Paz” category where it competed with other short films coming from Davao, Sulu, among others.
Joshua, whose first time to join competitions as such, said: “Hindi ko talagang inakala na makakasama yung film namin sa mga ganito, lalo na first time naming gumawa ng isang short film. Masaya talaga ako na nagka-experience kame na makasali sa mga ganitong klaseng event.”
Travelling Film Fest
The five short films made and produced by the ALSPA fellows were screened in different schools and communities in Zamboanga City through the SUGPAT Travelling Film Festival.
The fellows went to five schools and two communities to showcase their short films to grade school and high school students, as well as other members of the community.
SUGPAT Travelling Film Festival ran from November 2018, and will be running until the whole month of January 2019.
The ALSPA fellows engaged with their fellow out-of-school youth coming from Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Zamboanga during KAMP KAYA, the 5-day SUGPAT leadership camp for out-of-school youth.
KAMP KAYA was held from December 12 to 16, 2018 at the Mercedes Retreat House, where our fellows engaged in activities that aim to awaken their leadership skills.
To cap off a productive 2018, we ended the year with a celebration where we were joined by the first batch of SUGPAT ALSPA Fellows.
The celebration was loaded with fun games and activities prepared by the class officers. Some of the fellows showcased their talents in singing and dancing.
The fellows still have 2 months of the program before their graduation on February 2019.
