The 22 participating barangays of the SUGPAT Barangay Leadership Program are on their practicum stage of the program, to revisit their roadmap to improve youth participation and civic engagement in their barangay.
As part of the program, each barangay was given a coach to assist them and guide them in their pursuit of the program.
Among the coaches are Ma. Christina Cañones, faculty member of AdZU College of Education, where she handles Barangay Ayala, Calarian, and Recodo; Karen Abulencia, faculty member of AdZU College of Nursing handles Barangay Arena Blanco, Curuan, and Dulian (Upper Bungiao). Robin Delos Reyes, faculty member of AdZU College of Education handles Barangay Bunguiao, Manicahan, and San Jose Gusu. Jemar Peñiones, faculty member of Ateneo de Zamboanga Junior High School handles Barangay Divisoria, Lunzuran, Putik, and Sinunuc. Jayson Sabdillon, Chair of the Department of Psychology, handles Barangay Kasanyagan, Sta. Catalina, and Talon Talon. Judith Joy Tugade, Chair of the Department of Religious Studies handles Barangays San Roque, Sto. Ñino, and Tetuan. The Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance Office handles Barangay Labuan, Mercedes, and Sta. Maria.
The coaching sessions will be until November, before the second module of the program begins. The participating barangays will resume with the Module 2 of the Program on November 15-17 for the first batch, and Nov 29-Dec 1 for the second batch.
The barangay officials together with the SK Officials identified five (5) pressing issues or problems within their barangay and chose one (1) problem they aim to solve. The officials made a plan to address their chosen problem during Module 1, and the practicum stage would help them realize and prepare the implementation of their plans.
The Module 2 of the program would focus on deepening and improving their project.
The participating barangays aim to implement their projects before their completion and graduation on January 2019.
